Francis
Brown of White Sand Creek
Family
Group Sheet
Francis
Brown was b.c. 1760 and died in 1832 in Lawrence Co. MS.
Parents unknown at this time.
There was a Bartlett/Bartley Brown of the same age
group living in the same township in Lawrence Co.
No connection to him has been made, but DNA testing has
indicated they are possibly related.
Francis married Mary ? previous to 1786.
At least one other person has suggested Mary is a
second wife, but I have seen no evidence to suggest that.
Children:
1.
Henry b.c.
1786. For years,
we have believed the Henry who died in Simpson Co. MS in 1858
is Henry, the son of Francis, as named in Francis’ estate
papers. However,
DNA testing has indicated we are not related, although we are
more closely related to each other than to any other Browns in
the project. Henry
married Susannah Statham, but she was not the mother of his
children. Census
records indicate this Henry had 4 daughters and 1 son besides
Wiley and John P.
John
P. is missing in the 1850 census, yet there is a John Brown
living with one of Francis’ grandsons, George D. Brown, in
St. Tammany Parish, who fits perfectly.
Then, when John P.’s first wife died and he was
living in Texas, he married a daughter of Sterling Tarver and
Mary Brown, daughter of Francis Brown.
She lived 2 counties away, so it does not appear to be
coincidence. In
those times, people often married first cousins as second
spouses. So, our
paper trail indicates Henry of Simpson Co. is the son of
Francis, but DNA refutes this.

suspect a Jordan Brown might be another child.
His age indicates he could have been born in this
marriage, and been named after his grandfather.

Francis “Frank” D. Brown Family Group
Sheet
Francis
“Frank” D. Brown was b. 10 Feb. 1802, probably in
Jefferson County, Georgia, son of Francis Brown and Mary ?.
He died 25 April 1879 in Lincoln Co. MS, where he was
living with his cousin. He
married between 1820 and 1823 in Covington Co. MS (where
records were destroyed) to Elizabeth Coulter.
Elizabeth
Coulter b.c. 1805 GA died 18 Feb. 1864 in St. Tammany Parish,
LA. She was
either the daughter of Peter Coulter or his brother, John M.
Coulter. Because
she stayed behind when John M. moved north and eventually to
Arkansas, and because John M.’s daughter Elizabeth, about
the same exact age, was believed to have died young, I am
guessing she is Peter’s daughter.
But, there is no way to prove which is her father.
I have proven that she could be either.
Children:
- George
D. Brown b.c.1824 Williamsburg, Covington Co. MS, died 2
July 1900 Lake Charles, Calcasieu Parish, LA, buried in
Graceland Cemetery. He
married Mary E. Moye 16 May 1850 in St. Tammany Parish,
Elizabeth ? between 1853 and 1856, and Felician (maybe
Greuss?), a Barker widow between 1864 and 1871.
Only child by his first wife was Susan Elizabeth
Brown who m. John Bullock.
Children by second wife: Francis “Frank” who
died in 1880, probably a fireman who lost his life in a
fire, Corine who m. Jeremiah Miller, Georgiana who m. a
Tracy. By his
third wife, he had two more daughters, Louella “Lulu”
A. who m. Harvey T. Hurd, and Mattie. George was in Co. F.
of the 7th MS Reg. during the Civil War. He
signed up in Marion Co. MS.

Baptist Cemetery in Covington Co., most likely a first
child.
